It is undeniable, marble countertops are the pinnacle of beauty in the kitchen or bathroom. It adds that extra touch of luxury and sophistication to the area in which it features and will also be sure to add value to your property.
Marble vanities are suitable for bathroom vanities, staircases, etc due to the fact that it offers a relatively sanitary, hypoallergenic surface, is heat resistant (not a good conductor of heat) and has a tendency to remain naturally cool, a characteristic that is especially practical for feature staircases in temperature controlled commercial offices and buildings.
Marble is a popular natural stone material that has been used for building and decorating purposes for centuries. Its popularity is mostly due to its appearance, which is one of beauty and sophistication. The word “marble” is derived from the Ancient Greek words “marmaron” and “marmaros,” which translates to crystalline rock and shining stone. Its name therefore describes its beauty and shiny surface.
Marble is in fact metamorphosed limestone – it is created when limestone is exposed to extremely high temperatures and pressure. During this process, unique veins and patterns are also created which are well-known characteristics of marble. The veins found in marble slabs, which are responsible for marble’s unique appearance, are caused by mineral impurities. These veins are caused by clay, silt, sand, iron, chert, or oxides, which were originally layered within the limestone. The different coloured veins are created by different minerals – the green hue, for example, is caused by serpentine.
Marble is sourced from stone quarries around the world. The marble stone used to manufacture our selection of marble products at Artmar, including our countertops, are sourced from our own quarry in Turkey. Large blocks of marble are extracted from the quarry and this is then cut into smaller, transportable sizes, which are then exported and cut into custom sizes to meet our clients’ needs.
Our marble countertops are available in a range of colours, ranging from cream and beige to grey, brown, and black, as well as a variety of patterns and finishes, allowing our customers the freedom to choose a countertop that will suit their chosen décor theme.
Besides its rich history and legacy, marble also offers other advantages which has made it a popular choice for countertops. Some of these advantages include:
• Flexible design capabilities
Marble is easier to cut through than most other natural stone types which are prone to chip when cutting. Being so easy to cut, marble allows for design flexibility and custom installations without the fear of damaging the slab.
Although marble is known as one of the “softer” natural stone types, it is still a durable option and can withstand high traffic to a certain extent.
• Heat resistent
Just like mother other stone types, marble is heat resistant, making it a suitable worktop choice. Even though it is heat resistant, care still needs to be taken to protect your marble tops – never place hot pots and pans directly onto the surface, for example, always use a potholder.
• Allows for detailing
Due to being a “softer” stone type, marble allows for detailing. Custom edges and profiling are therefore a possibility with marble as it can easily be cut. This is also the reason why marble was often used for the creation of beautiful statues in the ancient times (it was a favourite among Greek and Roman sculptors).
Most people think that marble is one of the most expensive stone types, but there are more affordable options. If you choose a type that is more readily available on the market, the price tag will be more affordable.
• Sanitary & hygienic
If sealed and properly cared for, a marble countertop’s surface will be just as sanitary and hygienic as a granite top’s surface, making it a suitable choice for kitchen counters.
If you are eager to add this sophisticated addition to your home, be it in your kitchen, bathroom, or anywhere else, be sure to get in touch with our team to discuss your requirements.
