Finishes
Honed
This finish is created by buffing the stone slightly less than the highest level. The result is a flat, satin smooth, low shine, matte finish. Honed travertine is the most popular choice for home use.
Brushed
As the name implies, brushing the stone with hard nylon or steel creates “brushed” travertine. As a result, this finish has an antique and worn look. In addition, it is less slippery in comparison to honed or polished travertine.
Tumbled
Tumbled travertine is popular in outdoor applications. The most natural finish, it has a worn appearance that looks like ancient stone. It is matte, and highly textured with rounded edges.
Filled
Most commonly, the natural holes in travertine are filled. This is done with a mixture of hardener and dust by-products from the cutting and honing process. This ensures a perfect colour match.
Unfilled
An unfilled finish for travertine refers to the stone in its porous state with natural holes. More natural and antique in its appearance, this finish is popular for outdoor applications.
